The Doctor Is In: “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”
Operates on The Los Angeles Free Clinic

The hit ABC television series Extreme Makeover: Home Edition checked into The Los Angeles Free Clinic’s Hollywood location on Sunday, December 11 at 8:00 p.m. As part of the series’ holiday special, viewers witnessed the transformation of the Clinic, which serves people who have nowhere else to turn for medical help.

Past Extreme Makeover recipient Sweet Alice Harris, a Los Angeles community activist, believed that The Los Angeles Free Clinic was a great candidate for a makeover. Acting on her suggestion, series host Ty Pennington and other designers visited the Clinic and agreed it could use their expert touch.

"We visited one of the Clinic’s sites. We saw lots of children and families – people in need, who had nowhere else go for their health care – we also saw amazing doctors and staff offering great services, and compassionate care,” said Pennington. “We believed that by making this clinic a more inviting place to come to, we would help tens of thousands of people who rely on the Clinic for their care and the people who serve them.”

Extreme Makeover demolished and rebuilt the Clinic. The crew remodeled exam rooms, renovated patient bathrooms and showers, and installed state of the art equipment for patients and the medical staff.

Many businesses generously donated to the makeover including Swinerton Builders, who donated all of the hard labor and Baby Outfitters USA and Combi who donated 150 brand new baby strollers. American Career College gave three medical assistants a gift to last a lifetime - scholarships to nursing school! Thanks to all of the companies who contributed.

“Meeting the health needs of those who cannot afford services is one of the biggest challenges our nation faces today,” said Jeff Bujer, Co-CEO of The Los Angeles Free Clinic. “The improvements the Extreme Makeover crew made to our Clinic ensure that our patients and staff will benefit from the holiday spirit of giving all year round.”

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. David Goldberg is the president of Endemol USA. The series is executive-produced by Tom Forman. The show airs Sundays (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET), on the ABC Television Network and is broadcast with Spanish subtitles via secondary closed captioning.
